Finding Images to Share, Re-use and Mix

There are many places on the web where you can find images that have been licensed in such a way that you can use, share and/or modify them without requesting permission. Most of these images are made available under Creative Commons licenses.…
Digital Storytelling as a Morning Meeting Activity
Responsive Classrooms always are looking for morning meeting activities that are fun and energize students for the day. If the students can warm up and use their brains, too, it’s even better! Recently, I learned about Pechaflickr from Alan Levine‘s #ETMOOC session: Web Storytelling: 50 Ways, 5-Card Flickr & Pecha Flickr.…
Sharing Your Voice & Digital Storytelling
Bella & Jules
I’ve been teaching digital storytelling to middle schoolers for the past nine years, and the tools have been getting easier and easier to use. I began by using Pinnacle Studio on a standalone desktop computer–not connected to our SLOW school network. I liked it, but always ran into issues with rendering…crashing, taking FOREVER, formatting, etc. Eventually, we bought Flip cameras and were able to also purchase Adobe Premiere Elements and a new, much faster computer. What a difference…! The only problem is that we only had one editing computer in the school and of course each of the groups of students needed the one computer at the same time. This was always frustrating because I only had the students three times a week for 30 minutes each day. I was excited to learn about new online editing options through #etmooc Topic 2 Digital Storytelling. Unfortunately, I was distracted by #edcampstl and #metc13 and haven’t been able to explore some of the activities I was really looking forward to. Continue reading
Bringing Stories to Life – Digitally!

Last week, I spent the majority of my #etmooc time trying new digital storytelling tools (GIFs, Flip Books, Visual Poetry, 5 Card Flickr) and posting about my explorations and learnings. This week, I wanted to hold off testing more tools (PopcornMaker, Inklewriter & Stop Motion are high on my list!) so I could take time to reflect on the concept of digital storytelling and consider the value of it in the classroom.…

I’ll need to wear out my sneakers to work that off.…
Coming Full Circle with Digital Storytelling in #etmooc
After dabbling with digital storytelling last week as part of the work I’m doing as a learner in #etmooc, the Education Technology and Media MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) organized by University of Regina professor of educational and media Alec Couros and several “co-conspirators,” I circled back on the theme in a more focused and serious way.…
I’m a Flickr Fan
I like using Flickr for sharing photos. There are several similar services that I’ve tried, but Flickr remains my favorite so far. It integrates well with my Android devices and it allows for easy sharing. I especially like that I can send out links to my pictures that anyone can visit, even if they don’t have their own Flickr account.…
Picture Poetry – More #ETMOOC Digital Storytelling
After experimenting with the 5 Card Flickr Story this morning, I wanted to try another medium that would allow me to more easily integrate text and images. I was reminded of a free app I had downloaded quite a while ago but never fully explored: Visual Poet.…

I’m excited to dive into the topic of Digital Storytelling with #etmooc for the next two weeks. I started yesterday with a #sixwordstory so today I thought I would try a 5 Card Flickr Story! Here’s my first attempt!…
