Hi there! I know that it is preferable to use richer media than text in the introduction but will spare you from embarrasing photos of me and cut to the chase. I’m Tiago Santos from Lisbon, Portugal. I’ve started as a K-12 science teacher, but in the lack of professional opportunities in the area I’ve moved away from education to pursue a career in design and I’m currently working as graphic and web designer at ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon. I’ve recently returned to education after completing a masters program in open source software with a dissertation on a prototype for a Drupal based MOOC network. 

I’ve attended this afternoon’s welcome & orientation session facilitated by Alec Couros and his team. It was the first time that I got in touch with Blackboard Collaborate platform, and I must say that I am very well impressed (too bad that it isn’t open source software), it provides an rich and interactive learning experience. It was amazing to see all the folks building and sharing their input around Alec’s slides, that was true collaborative learning! Most of the incoming topics overviewed by Alec have been on my mind in past months in virtue of my dissertation’s research but it was great to return to them in a different perspective and I foresee that I will build upon them in the forthcoming weeks with the help of all at #ETMOOC.
