Quality Matters Monday: Standard 1.4

QMIt’s Quality Matters Monday! Each Monday, we will highlight a Quality Matters standard and review its importance in an online course and how we evaluate this standard.

Today, we are reviewing Quality Matters Standard 1.4.

Click here to view Quality Matters Standard 1.4 in the Quality Matters Rubric. This standard addresses the inclusion of course and/or institutional policies with which the learner is expected to comply.

It is important to remember that these policies may be established by the instructor or by the institution and all should be included in the course. The best locations for these policies are in the syllabus and/or the “Start Here” section of the course.

Policies that are strongly encouraged to include are academic integrity and late submission policies. If your institution does not have these standard policies, we suggest that you state them for your course so that there is no question once the course has started.

If your institution does have these policies, keep in mind that they can change and are often quite lengthy so you may want to provide a direct link to the policies so that they are explicit and easy for students to find.

In our demo course, State U Student Orientation, you can find examples of how to meet QM Standard 1.4 by looking at pages 6-9 in the syllabus.
