Students researched el Dia de Los Muertos and presented via Animoto, Prezi!

El Día de los Muertos is an important celebration in Mexico. It is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd yearly, and is considered a day of memory for loved ones who have passed. It is not a sad event but otherwise it is very different and more festive like Halloween. It is believed that the dead come back briefly to celebrate with their loved ones. On these days, altars are built to honor the dead and gravesites are visited with celebration, food, flowers, candles, music, decoration and family members who visit around the clock.

For this particular unit, my students were taught about the cultures and traditions. After the unit was complete, the students had the opportunity to create a presentation on their understanding of this celebration.

Later, each student created an altar for a loved one who had passed. An offering was attached to this altar. Examples of offerings were:photos, books, toys, personal family items, and food such as chocolate bars, rice etc.
