EVO-2013

After a terrific EVO course in 2012, this time I have decided to enrol in three courses:

1.  How to become a Webhead – BAW

Communication Channels

Wiki
Yahoo Group

Communication modes

There are two main communication modes throughout this workshop: asynchronous and synchronous.

The asynchronous mode (not live, not in real time)

  • Yahoo Group (YG): This will be our communications center to be in permanent contact with all members through its email feature (distribution list).

The synchronous mode (live, in-real-time sessions)

We will have weekly live sessions with guest speakers, which will take place at a fixed date, time and place. They will be announced well in advance and the information will be available in the Live Sessions page.

Objectives

At the end of the 5 weeks participants, collaboratively and hands on, will have…
  • used various synchronous and asynchronous Web tools for learning and teaching EFL/ESL,
  • interacted through e-mail, text chat, voice chat, voice and video mail, and distribution lists, among others,
  • created wikis, blogs, podcasts and interactive exercises related to their own contexts, and,
  • reflected on ways of applying those tools to their teaching, either online or face-to-face.

2. Designed for Business

Communication Channels

Edmodo  is where we’ll be interacting with each other and responding to the tasks

Wiki the wiki is like the course book for this teacher training course, it contains our course content
Moderators will be using IATEFL BESIG Diigo account to post links rom the week’s tasks and discussions and there are already a lot of business English resources there. Here is the link.

Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will have:
  • gained the confidence to design effective business English courses
  • taken part in an active dialogue about business English course design with leading practitioners in the field and other professionals
  • been given the tools to carry out effective needs analysis and pre-training course design, with the opportunity to try them out for themselves
  • been exposed to and practiced using the tools–both blended learning and methodological–needed for course design in the twenty-first century
  • looked at situations which can present challenges to teachers as they design their courses and strategies for overcoming them
  • reflected on how they can become more effective course designers whatever the context they are faced with

3. Mentoring

Channels of Communication

Mentor Interaction is intensifying the understanding of counseling, consulting, and peer dialogue from the previous EVO sessions. Teachers of ESL/EFL will receive a review on mentoring to build a solid base to build in-depth understanding of the key aspects of the mentoring relationship. The aim of this course is to help education professionals understand the characteristics and the importance of mentoring in becoming expert teachers. The readings, discussions, case studies and assignments will focus on practical aspects of creating and maintaining successful mentoring relationships.
Weekly chats will be held to discuss content and pre-defined topics, build rapport, and create a sense of community.
