It’s Quality Matters Monday! Each Monday, we highlight a Quality Matters standard and review its importance in an online course and how we evaluate this
standard.

Today, we are reviewing Quality Matters Standards 4.3.

General Standard 4 addresses the inclusion of instructional materials that enable learners to achieve the stated learning objectives or competencies.

This standard specifically addresses that all instructional materials used in the course are appropriately cited.

Texts are usually cited well in syllabus but additional readings in LMS’ need citation information as well. In order for students to cite sources in
written assignments, all citation information is need. QM Standard 4.3 suggests that “Text, images, graphic materials, tables, videos, audios, websites,
and other forms of multimedia” should be “appropriately referenced according to the institution’s copyright and intellectual property policies.”

Outside videos need to have titles and citation information, too. Providing this information for students is especially important if they want to cite the
material in their research papers and for locating their own similar resources. An idea of where the instructor finds their course material is a great
starting point for students becoming student scholars. It’s also good to include citations below each text, video, audio, image, and other outside
