Disrupting the education system: manifesto for edu-reformers

EdReform

Here are seven powerful quotes.  Do you see the links?

1.  It is in fact a part of the function of education to help us escape, not from our own time — for we are bound by that — but from the intellectual and emotional limitations of our time.         —  T.S. Eliot

2.  Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.        —  Nelson Mandela

3.   Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today.        —  Malcolm X

4.  I am entirely certain that twenty years from now we will look back at education as it is practiced in most schools today and wonder how we could tolerated anything so primitive.         —  John W. Gardner

5.  Aim for success, not perfection. Never give up your right to be wrong, because then you will lose the ability to learn new things and move forward with your life. Remember that fear always lurks behind perfectionism.         —  David M. Burns

6.  To succeed, disruptive technologies must be applied in applications where the alternative is nothing.        —  Clayton Christensen

7.  All that is necessary for the triumph of [failure] is that good [people] do nothing.         —  Edmund Burke [apologies by me for the tweaks!]

Many of us, from all around the world (bar South Korea and Finland, it seems!) lament the current state of education.  And what do we do?  Not enough by a long stretch, I say.

My days of hand-wringing on the sidelines are over.  It’s time for me to become part of the solution (terribly cliched, but still true!).

Carpe diem (annum!)
