Well it took a while to finally get started but I think I am finally wrapping my head around this learning and integrating technology assignment. I have decided to learn the iBooks Author application available on the iPad as a new technology. Through this process I will learning about how e-books can be integrated into literacy instruction.
My experience with e-books thus far is fairly limited. I have some personal experience using the iPad as an e-reader, as well as using some of the digital audio books available through iBooks with my own daughter. I have never created an e-book so I am excited about this opportunity. The goal is to learn how to use application, try out ideas and to transfer that knowledge into the classroom. I would also like to be able to give other staff members training in this area once I feel comfortable.
Choosing the e-book technology has come at a perfect time. Last week’s forums focused on e-books and e-readers. It is clear that there are benefits to using this relatively new technology. Student engagement, a mode to increase differentiated instruction including helping struggling readers and portability are just a few of the potential advantages to using e-books.
I am looking forward to this journey.
