iMovie explorations!

iMovie is on my computer, so I thought I would learn how to use it.  I’ve committed to using it with the Grade 5/6 class at my school as part of their poetry project.

About a year ago, a friend of mine turned 40.  They had a nice little party for her and made a video for her.  That was my frist attempt at using iMovie.  I would show you that video, but it has clips “borrowed” from other YouTube users and I didn’t attribute well.  Once I learn how to do that properly, I’ll edit the video and add it as a link to this post, so my learning will be a bit more visible.

More recently I used iMovie to make my introduction videos for #edci515 and #etmooc as well as Bryan Jackson’s open learning project, Introduction to Guitar.  The original post is here and the guitar video is here.

Here’s what I know how to do by sheer exploration.

1. how to upload a video to YouTube

2. how to convert to a Quicktime movie

3. how to import stills and videos and edit the order in which they appear

4. how to record a video and edit it in iMovie

5. how to voice over and edit the position and length of the audio

6. how to add text, like titles and edit their position

Here’s what I know by searching out some help.

1. thanks to TheHowToMac on YouTube for helping me learn how to remove audio from video clips in iMovie.  This is going to be a wonderful thing while working on a Pink Shirt Day video at the school and will be a great skill to teach the students.

Here’s what I want to know.

1. how to upload a video directly to Facebook without going to YouTube directly

2. how to use transitions effectively

3. how to match audio and video, like for a lipdub

I’m wondering what useful features there are in iMovie that I am not even aware of.
