I have had a fantastic week!  So much professional development!

Yesterday I went to a workshop on Challenge Based Learning at Apple Canada Inc.  Challenge Based Learning is like Project Based Learning but with an authentic challenge to do something about a real challenge/problem in the world.

We had a fantastic conversation and some great ideas were shared.   Since that chat (click here to see all archived chats), I have had a few more people ask me about how to introduce Genius Hour.

So, last year we decided to toss out our desks in favour of round tables.  

Why?  

Collaboration, community and cooperation!

After many talks with my principal, Antonio Vendramin, and my teaching partner, Hugh McDonald, we all decided to give this experiment a try!

This Blog entry is going to be nice and short…in fact, at first I wasn’t even sure if this was even worth blogging about…but I just have to share my most EXCITING moment this week:

      96% attendance on Meet the Teacher Day! 

Last year I started a class website with hopes that parents/guardians would get a better idea of what their children were learning & doing at school. 

It included:

-a schedule of upcoming dates
-links to school district pdfs
-a form with which they could send me messages
-a class blog about upcoming units/projects
-list of daily homework and assignments
-links to educational websites
and more!
