Building a PLG

One of the best resources for learning something new is people.  This week I joined some fellow educators in the district wanting to get a headstart with Google Apps for Education.  I had my first experience using a Chromebook and got some hands-on experience with Google Classroom.

Week 3: Maps, Maps, and More Maps

​I began my third week of learning about GIS mapping by finding that when I forwarded a photo from my phone to me email account I lost the map coordinates noted in the details, so I went back to the internet to find an app that would allow my phone to act as a GPS and I found one called GPS Coordinates by Woozilli available through the Google Play function on my Google Nexus phone.

Dancing cat, created using Scratch

 Well, I have coded my first code.  I used a language called Scratch, created by MIT and launched in 2009, which is designed for individuals (mostly children) who want to learn the basics of coding.  It is a graphical language where instead of typing the command codes into an code editor, you connect the command blocks together into a script that creates simple animations, games and a whole lot of other things.

Personalisation

When we talk personalization, we tend to talk about targeting. You learn a certain set of things, you get tested, the personalization software finds knowledge gaps and runs you through the set of canned explanations that you need.

And

While not entirely useless, this conception doesn’t fit the bulk of my experience as either a teacher or a learner.
