Creating a Retelling Rubric

Today in English class we created a retelling rubric that is aligned with the anchor text we are using for our Grade 2 buddies.  My students have read and re-read the text many times and are quite familiar with the story. …

Researching e-books for the iPad

I have spent the past few weeks researching the e-book options available for the iPad.  I had a couple of motives for doing this research.  Professionally, I wanted to learn how our school could integrate e-books available on the iPad into our teaching and classrooms. …

Reflecting on Tweeting and Blogging

As I spent the weekend reflecting on the use of Twitter and Kidblog in my French classroom, I realized Twitter has surpassed my expectations for usefulness.  In the beginning, I had rallied my class around the idea of using Twitter to practice, each day, a French phrase, using some verb tense or other language structure from our daily class work. …

Connections Rock! My Video on Real Connections

Thanks to Alan Levine’s search for true online connections(see here), I have created my first speaking video of me discussing my real connection with Jeff Utecht. I have made a great connection with Jeff and he has been in Thailand for for the last few years while I am in New Hampshire, USA.…

Cultural Rift: When Will Education Get Personal?

Just checked out David Wiley’s talk at Penn State on Open Education. I can’t help think about my own teaching experiences and the positive impacts that getting personal with students has had. The traditional notion of education, courses and institution has us expecting a certain experience when attending a course.…

Pink Shirt Day

My first big project for the school with iMovie.  I’d love feedback and comments.  The girls would love to hear them too!  It’s also posted on our school Facebook Page, here.

As for learning iMovie, I think I have the basics but am definitely interested in getting a little bit more creative.…

Still in the Works!

This past week has flown by.  All the best intentions, just not enough time in the day!  I’ve packed home my work laptop each day in an effort to begin learning the Classroom Suite software by IntelliTools in the evenings.  Funny thing is…I’m spending more time learning it at work through my discussions with the support workers! …
