Effective learning in a cMOOC

Quote from Alec Couros on etmooc.org

For many people, even the more experienced networked learners, MOOCs can be overwhelming. In fact, some posit that complexity is an essential part of the experience. However, I am hoping to provide a bit of guidance and encouragement here to assure you that feelings of ‘being lost’ are common, but through persistence, sense-making, and personal connections, the vast majority of learners can persevere and make great gains through the dissonance and complexity.…

In his session at Educon 2.5, Jon Becker led a crowd sourcing activity to create a High School MOOC.
Thomas Friedman discussed MOOC’s in his New Your Times Op-Ed today, though Becker thought he didn’t really get it.

The Situation

I’m blogging with three different music performance classes. Band I  – an entry level high school performance class, Band II for our more experienced high school musicians, and Jazz Ensemble – which is sort of a Band III and it’s reserved only for students who can pass an audition and are very serious about music and music performance.…

The Pro’s and Con’s of Connected Learning: Initial Observations in the #etMOOC

We are now about two weeks into the “Education Technology & Media” Massive Open Online Course” (#ETMOOC) taught in large part by one of the pioneers of open education, Alec Couros.  I think he is also the Canadian version of Andy Garcia, but that is besides the point.…

As I sat through Dean Shareski’s session on #ETMOOC “sharing is accountability”, an image took form in my head.  We often hear how the web is a busy place, that there is too much information, it’s overwhelming…  Do you remember in college or University, the first time you walked into the library?

It isn’t #etmooc’s Fault: Find Your Own Slice of Learning

Should we concentrate on making a MOOC less overwhelming, or should we rather concentrate on making our learning process better? What role does our own empowerment play in finding the right "slice of learning"?

Thank you to Darren Kuropatwa for inspiring this idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8m_PaAFRtxc

Learn. Create. Talk. #etmooc post #2

Create.

So I’m being pushed.

I’ve been MIA on Twitter and G+ last year and a half due to many reasons. I don’t need to go into what those are, but I had made my decision after much thought. As I mentioned in my #etmooc intro video, my daily learning life changed since I started joining Twitter and building my PLN.…

Exploring connected versus/and networked learning

On a very wet, Australia day long weekend I’m hoping to explore some of the differences, similarities and connections between networked and connected learning. This is all part of my attempt to participate in #etmooc which is currently looking at “Connected Learning – Tools, Processes & Pedagogy”.…
